Abstract

The article The Guru in the Nimbarka Tradition by Kevin Singer investigates the centrality of the guru in Nimbarka’s Dvaitādvaita Vedānta lineage. Through textual analysis and historical accounts, Singer shows that guru-upāsana (service to the guru) constitutes both a spiritual practice and an independent means to liberation. The guru is viewed as God incarnate and is treated with supreme reverence. This article highlights the lineage’s emphasis on prapatti, personal surrender, and divine grace mediated through the guru. Biographical sketches of prominent Nimbārka gurus help illuminate how theological ideals are embodied in lived devotional practice.
