The article opens the volume with a bold question: Does the Vaishnava tradition authentically support ecological sustainability, or does its metaphysical orientation hinder engagement with the environment? Drawing from philosophy and field insights, Jarow critiques escapist interpretations rooted in māyā and calls for an eco-critical reformulation of Vaishnava theology grounded in place (loka) and inclusive devotion.
