Abstract

The article "Krishna-Consciousness, Christ-Consciousness, and Contemporary Religious Consciousness" by Klaus K. Klostermaier examines the role of religious consciousness across Eastern and Western traditions. It contrasts the deep philosophical and experiential focus on consciousness in Indian thought—particularly in Advaita Vedanta, Buddhism, and Krishna-consciousness—with the more event- and sacrament-centered theology of Christianity. Highlighting the Caitanya movement’s transformative Krishna-consciousness, the article calls for a renewed exploration of consciousness as a vital bridge for spiritual growth and interreligious dialogue.
